Condoms now listed as ‘Smoking Alternatives’ at all Tesco stores

18 year old Beth Cutts was shopping at a Tesco Superstore when she noticed a rather odd product placement. A range of Durex condems, on a 2 for £14 offer, had been placed under the ‘Smoking Alternatives’ section, just above a line of Nicorette packets.

Of course she snapped a picture of it, and naturally assuming it to be a screw up on Tesco’s part, pinged Tesco via the following tweet :

Imagine her surprise when she got a reply from the Tesco press team saying that all stores had been laid out in this manner.

Jess from Tesco posted: “@_hystxria Hi there Beth, I’m unsure of why but all stores are layed out as such – very strange I know! Thanks for letting us know 🙂 – Jess.”

However, it is still unclear how the condoms are supposed to be used as an alternative for smoking. Are customers being asked to have sex every time they feel like taking a drag? Or is it some other way that condoms might possibly be utilized? Whatever it is, let’s hope that Tesco really have come up with a novel solution to helping people quit smoking!
