A deaf man has reportedly filed a class-action lawsuit against the popular adult video website, Pornhub for alleged rights violations because he says it doesn’t provide closed captioning on its videos.
Yaroslav Suris has filed the case against website claiming its lack of subtitles is a denial of access, TMZ reports.
Suris shared that he had tried to watch titles that included ‘Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew,’ ‘Sexy Cop Gets Witness to Talk’ and ‘Daddy 4K — Allison comes to Talk About Money to Her Boys’ Naughty Father,’ but he was completely lost when it came to the dialogue.
Pornhub announced in 2018 that they were putting closed captioning with some videos.
Court documents suggest that Suris believes a lack of closed captioning violates his rights under ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). The ADA ‘prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local government’ programs and services.’
Suris also said that he and others have purchased Pornhub’s premium subscription, hoping that would alleviate the issue. He is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages and also for Pornhub to add closed captioning to its videos.
Corey Price, Vice President of Pornhub, said in a statement: ‘We understand that Yaroslav Suris is suing Pornhub for claiming we’ve denied the deaf and hearing impaired access to our videos. While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category.’
There does appear to be a ‘closed captioning’ section on Pornhub’s website, containing a little over 400 videos.
